Blackwater Manufacturing awarded to Specialist Protective Coatings (SPC) a project to treat a number of pipes that they had produced, going directly to a gas works supported initiative.
Blackwater Manufacturing is a well-established manufacturer and supplier of carbon steel pipes, fittings, flanges, and associated accessories and to the gas industry and an integral business to this sector. Based in Scotland since the 1980s, the engineer-led company holds ISO and BSI Kitemarks for quality to supply pipes and fittings therefore Specialist Protective Coatings needed to ensure they worked together with them to meet their own compliant best practice.
The pipework for Blackwater Manufacturing was coated with 1500 Microns of solvent free urethane on the external surfaces, and a single coat of an epoxy polyamine coating on the internal surface to prevent rust and improve gas flow.
As well as the above, SPC also recently completed some work for Billington Structures, on behalf of their client, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). As a company, we were delighted to be able to support such a prestigious development. As part of its car manufacturing factory in Knowsley, JLR is constructing a new 35,0000 square foot unit to boost its operational efficiency. The building would allow the company to expand storage and production capacity for its Body in White operations. Body in White refers to a stage of car production relating to the welding together of the frame.
Billington Structures supplied plate girders for this project which had been blasted and coated at SPC. Each girder weighs 7 tonnes and has had a 3 coat system, applied to provide 60 min of fire protection. They were given 60min intumescent treatment, along with the roof rafters. This specialist coating will help a building maintain its integrity during a fire, giving emergency services more time to control any outbreak.
